Quick Facts
- Permits Needed Before Building A Home:
Sewage site evaluation. Construction permit. These permits are available at LaRue County Environmental Office. 215 East Main Street, Hodgenville. Submit plans (site, floor, risor diagram). Make a site plan. Apply for a site evaluation for on-site system (if not on city sewer). Have entrance permanently established, so an address can be assigned. Contact the LaRue County Highway Department at 270-358-3502 to ensure the driveway is approved with proper drainage sites. - Plumbing Permits and Inspections:
These permits are also available at the LaRue County Environmental Office. Division of Plumbing approval is required before a permit will be issued. All work must be done by a master plumber. A septic system permit must be purchased before a plumber permit will be issued (if not on city sewer). Plumbing permits can be purchased on Wednesdays only, 8-9:30 A.M. only. Inspections are by appointment on Wednesdays only. Call 270-358-8665 before 9:30 A.M. to schedule appointment. - Building and Zoning Permits:
Fee is based upon the square footage of the building. Before applying for the building permit, have the permit for the septic system first. Doublewides and modular homes are considered mobile home. You can build a house in the A-1, R-1A or R-1B zoning districts. If you bought an existing tract as long as it has the appropriate zoning, you should be able to build a house with just the above permits. If you purchased property that is part of an agricultural division, normally 5-plus acres, you will have to fill out an agricultural affidavit before a permit will be issued. In this affidavit, you will have to state your intended agricultural use. You can have only one residence per tract.
